So here you have it folks: The top ____ things that servers at "Pickle Garden" in Utah dislike?:
2. As servers in Utah, Idaho and Georgia I believe? we make a whopping $2.13 an hour. That's it. So a tip of 1 or 2 bucks with the intent to give your server some "extra" spending money is very generous, but unrealistic. Our tips are our income. That's it. We don't see the $2.13 an hour because it goes to taxes anyways. So next time you think of telling my manager that I need a promotion, which is very kind, just promote me by giving me a 20% tip.
3. Yes, your children are adorable, really. however, not adorable enough to stop a server from running them over because of the blind spots that the huge trays we carry provide. Rather than having your 8 year old spin in and out from the table, have them sit furthest away from the aisle for their safety as well as the server's sanity.
4. Also, when your server comes to take your order, if you are not ready, it's totally ok! We will then suggest that we can give you more time. Do not be put off by this, just know that we are busy with other tables and rather than standing in front of your table staring at your scalp, which may be clean and white, hoping that you will choose soon, we could be getting other checks closed, or bread refills taken care of so that we may be able to give you all of our attention. That really does make us feel good.
5. Along with this, when it is time for your kiddies to order, know ahead of time what they want. This happens a lot. And I love kids! I do, but as a server, it is one of the more frustrating things when I say "And for the little one?" with a smile and the parent says to the little one "What do you want Braxton?" and the kid can hardly talk yet or is 12 years old and too shy to talk and I am left standing there for a few minutes while my other tables glare at me because they have consumed their 20x refilled glass of water. Just ask your kids before I come over what they would like. It makes it go so much faster. OH! And there are sides too. Grapes, broccoli or mashed potatoes. I tend to suggest grapes after 5 seconds.
6. Men, when you go out to eat for business "brunch" for the love of everything, please do not order soup and salad unless you are going to leave a generous tip. It's delicious, of this I am well aware. But your check ends up being 8 bucks and after we have refilled your salad, soup and bread 13 times, a 1 dollar tip is a bummer. Cause ya'll can put it away. Let me tell ya.
Well, gee, that's it for right now. So it ended up being the Top 6 things that servers at Pickle garden can't stand. Oh, P.S. I love my job. Serving is actually really fun. I suppose it's just the Warburton in me that decided to make a list as this one.
